Forever Green
Forever Green is Bentall’s green program. It embodies the elements of sound property management practices with social and environmental principles of sustainability. Forever Green is a declaration of Bentall's Commitment to strategically develop and continually improve environmental best practices with regard to our managed properties and the impact they have on the communities in which we do business.
And we have't just jumped on the bandwagon, the Bentall Centre was actually the first property in Canada to receive a BOMA BESt certification, signifying its compliancy with envirionmental best practices.
Since then, the Bentall Centre has continuously grown its green program with the inception of the Forever Green Tenant Team as well as with significant upgrades to the buildings, such as replacing outdated equipment with more energy and water efficient alternatives and initiating comprehensive waste reduction and recycling programs. Here’s a short list of what’s been done so far:
- Lighting conversion to T8 fluorescent tubes (they use 35% less electricity than the older T12 version)
- Occupancy sensors in all infrequented / back of house areas for energy conservation
- Occupancy sensors in washrooms for energy conservation
- LED exit lights for energy conservation
- Auto urinals / auto flushers (ongoing installations) for water conservation
- New energy efficient chillers
- Smaller off?peak load boilers installed to reduce gas consumption
- Two new energy efficient roof replacements to reduce heat loss in winter and cooled air loss in summer
- Utilizing a fully green certified janitorial products line
- Offering electronics and battery recycling, in addition to the long?standing practice of paper, cardboard and glass, plastics and metals recycling
- Commuter services – such as the Ride Share Program and bicycle lockers.
